STANDARD 5: POSITIVE CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT
- The teacher candidate uses an understanding of individual/group motivation and behavior to create a learning environment that encourages active engagement in learning, positive social interaction, and self-motivation.
Alignment to Standard:
- These photographs align with Standard 5 as they demonstrate the promotion of active engagement, positive social interactions, and self-motivation. By clearly communicating daily expectations and assigning each student an individual role, the students are empowered to take ownership of their learning. This approach fosters a student-centered, student-driven environment that encourages responsibility and independence.
Reflection:
- I have included several images that illustrate our classroom expectations, which are designed to foster a positive and supportive learning environment. One of the images depicts the classroom schedule along with the specific expectations for carpet time, which include “quiet voice, listening ears, calm body, and looking eyes.” Each student is assigned a unique responsibility within the classroom, which encourages them to take ownership of the learning environment. As part of their roles, students remind their peers about the schedule, carpet time expectations, and other classroom duties, promoting a sense of accountability and community.
