STANDARD 1: CONTENT KNOWLEDGE ALIGNED WITH APPROPRIATE INSTRUCTION
- The teacher candidate understands the central concepts, structures, and discipline(s) and creates learning experiences that make these aspects of subject matter meaningful and engaging for students.
Alignment to Standard
- I have attached a photograph from one of my circle time lessons, during which I read the book Freight Train. To enhance the experience, I incorporate train car props that correspond with the story. These props are placed in the ‘Magic Bag,’ creating an element of surprise for the students each day, as they discover what activity we will be engaging in during circle time. This approach fosters excitement and anticipation, while also encouraging active participation in the lesson.
Reflection
- I reflect on Standard 1 of the Missouri Early Learning Standards, which stresses the importance of understanding the content and the ability to effectively deliver this knowledge to young learners. This standard ensures that educators are prepared to teach key concepts and skills in ways that are appropriate for children’s developmental stages. As I reflect on how my use of circle time books and story props aligns with this standard, I can see how these materials support not only the children’s learning but also my own knowledge and ability to provide high-quality instruction.
