Sense of Identity

Objective:

Graduates will be able to explain the role culture plays in educational settings and in the learning process.

Statement:

As reflective scholar-practitioners, teacher candidates develop a Sense of Identity that includes a critical self-awareness of who they are as individuals, members, and leaders in a multicultural society; the biases that influence their behavior and how they work with others; the power they exercise in personal and professional settings; and the privilege that shapes their own behavior and their interactions with others. At the same time, reflective scholar-practitioners develop a critical understanding of each so as to teach in ways that honor and respond to the richness of individual identities and the diversity of identities encountered in learning environments.

Parent Questionnaire Survey : CLICK HERE

Description:

    • The Parent Questionnaire Survey was designed to provide valuable insights into my case study student’s background, strengths, and areas for growth. By gathering information directly from the student’s parents or guardians, the survey allowed me to better understand their home environment, learning preferences, and any external factors that may influence their academic performance. This comprehensive understanding enabled me to adapt my instructional approach and develop more effective strategies to support the student’s individual needs and foster their overall development.

Goals:

1.)  I plan to implement the Parent Questionnaire Survey at the beginning of each school year for all of my students. This will allow me to gather valuable insights into each child’s unique background, learning style, and any relevant family dynamics that may influence their educational experiences. I will review and, if necessary, revise specific questions annually to ensure the survey remains relevant and effective in capturing relevant information. By making any necessary adjustments each year, I aim to continuously improve the survey’s partnership between home and school in supporting each student’s success.

Reflection:

    • As I begin my teaching career, I plan to use this tool as a demonstration of my commitment to fostering strong communication and collaboration with the parents and guardians of each of my students. I deeply value the partnership between home and school, as parents and guardians have valuable insights into their child’s strengths, needs, and learning preferences. By actively engaging with families, we, as educators, can gain a more holistic understanding of each student, allowing us to tailor our teaching approaches to better support their individual learning and overall development.
